Real Estate Photographer Spotlight: Becca Tipton

This week under the WindowStill Spotlight, we have Becca Tipton!

Becca is one of our awesome photographers covering the entire Metro Detroit/East Michigan area, as well as West Michigan and the Mackinaw area in Northern Michigan by request. She told us about her hobbies and some of the tips that have helped her succeed in photography.

What is your role at WindowStill and what does a day of work typically look like for you?

As a photographer, each day for me is all about helping our agents and their sellers market their properties at their highest and best level!

Of course, this means always working with them to achieve the best images possible. However, it also means being there for our sellers with whatever they need during this transition. Whether that’s moving some furniture or being able to listen and being ready with a hug, I help in any way that I can.

Being located in the city, I’m also fortunate to have the opportunity to work with several of our commercial clients on projects that affect and elevate Detroit directly. So, both areas are equally rewarding!

What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not working?

My favorite way to spend time is traveling, followed closely by reading.

I’m also getting more involved with foraging and exploring food roles within our lifestyle. As a result, I started making wine this year, so we will see how that goes! Art has always played a central role for me and I’m very passionate about exploring and celebrating family relationships.

I spend a lot of time learning the stories of particularly daughters, mothers, grandmothers, and mothers-to-be through my birth photography. When I’m not participating in any of these activities, I’m probably drinking tea and watching Downton Abby!

What advice would you give to someone that’s new to your field and why?

Don’t say no to anything that interests you and don’t say yes to anything that gives you a red flag.

Be willing to take risks and always be brave with your art, but recognize that we live in a world now where anything can be a valid field or subject for your photography or videography. Also, many people are very talented and faking it won’t cut it. Let your passion be the guide for your work and try new things!

If you have real feelings for your subject matter, your work will shine. One more thing… beg, borrow, or almost steal when it comes to your gear! In other words: do what you need to do to keep your work high-quality. Faulty, dated, or low-performing equipment is costing you time and money no matter how scrupulous you’re feeling or trying to be. Cough it up and keep your gear in as excellent condition as possible.

What do you feel is the most important quality for someone in your field and why?

I think the most important thing is to remain supportive and flexible. When you’re capturing life (it can be a house or a horse, it doesn’t matter) things don’t always happen in quite the scenario or on quite the schedule that anyone could predict or prefer. Being ready to help our clients through those unknowns with some spirit and a smile is a huge part of what we do every day.

Also, it’s a really beautiful opportunity to make a little difference in the world!
