Real Estate Photographer Spotlight: Jake Elker
This week under the WindowStill Spotlight, we have Jake Elker!
Jake is one of our awesome photographers from Southeast Michigan (Ranging from Lapeer and Brighton to Detroit). He told us about his hobbies and his advice for newer photographers.
Here’s what he had to say…
What is your role at WindowStill and what does a day of work typically look like for you?
I am a real estate photographer. I usually wake up, grab my equipment (right now it’s camera and drone), and go to my first shoot. Depending on how many jobs I have and how far away I have to go, I may stop for some breakfast or lunch. Depending on the schedule and location I may bring my computer with me to upload some footage early or simply stop at home.
What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not working?
I usually take the time to look over my work and see how it is all turning out. When I have free time I try to get out and ride my bike or just shoot hoops in the park. If I can’t get out, I like to watch TV or play video games. It is football season so I’m usually focused on that as well.
What advice would you give to someone that’s new to your field and why?
One thing I do every night in preparation for the next day is always checking or paying attention to the charge status on my equipment. You don’t want to be at a shoot and find out you might not be able to use your flash because a battery is dead or your camera dies. Pretty much, charge batteries every night.
What do you feel is the most important quality for someone in your field and why?
A general sense of space is always good to have. Being able to frame a piece of the room as well as keeping track of where you framed other pieces of the space work hand in hand to help viewers create a good mental map of the property.
