Real Estate Photographer: Lacie Cookson

This week under the WindowStill Spotlight, we have Lacie Cookson!

Lacie is one of our awesome photographers from Howard, Kansas, covering El Dorado, Augusta, Emporia, Independence, Eureka, Fredonia, Sedan, and all other surrounding areas. She can even go as far as Olathe if you ask.

Here’s what she had to say…

What is your role at WindowStill and what does a day of work typically look like for you?

My role at WindowStill is to provide photography services to clients, who are mainly real estate agents.

I am a real estate photographer who enjoys assisting other small businesses in growing and succeeding. Without a doubt, real estate is a large industry, but the individual agent defines the small business aspect, so I enjoy assisting agents in growing and succeeding in their businesses. That’s exactly what I do.

Connecting with them on social media, being a fan on their business pages and promoting their posts by liking and commenting, or meeting with them in person over coffee (or tea if you’re a tea snob like me) or lunch to talk about their business and success is what that looks like on a daily basis.

Setting up Lunch and Learns is also a great way to connect with multiple agents in the same office and gain exposure as a new real estate photographer.

What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not working?

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, traveling, volunteering, learning Spanish, caring for my leopard gecko, and spending time with my husband and four stepchildren. These are just a few of my favorite activities. There is so much I want to discover and do in life!

Photography has and will always hold a special place in my heart, so it’s no surprise that I continue to shoot real estate photography. I enjoy photographing nature and landscapes, storms and abstracts, live music, reflections, things at night, and memories of family and friends, as well as doing ministry work, among other things.

What advice would you give to someone that’s new to your field and why?

Kindness is a trait that will never fail you as a new real estate photographer. Stay the course, be consistent, and be persistent. Every day, except at least one day a week for rest, aim to find new leads.

Be patient because you never know when the next opportunity will knock. You can message an agent, but you might not hear back for a while. You might not hear from them for a while after they say they’ll use you on their next or future listings. They will recall your first message to them.

Remember that not all agents will be the ones you end up working with, and you will not be the one working with all agents. But it never hurts to meet them and introduce yourself! You never know how much of a positive influence you can have on someone unless you put yourself out there!

What do you feel is the most important quality for someone in your field and why?

Being positive and kind will go a long way. Be yourself while remaining consistent, persistent, and kind.

Never stop learning and improving your photography skills. Everything you can learn is exciting and can help you expand the services you offer. However, mastering the camera and learning how to create beautiful images or video is only part of real estate photography.

It’s all about your relationship with your customers. You can always learn new ways to improve your photography/videography skills, but building and harnessing relationships takes a lifetime.
