WindowStill Spotlight: Brad Ziemer

Welcome to our first installment of WindowStill Spotlight!

We do our best to provide unparalleled service to exceed every one of your expectations. So, we feel it’s important that our community gets to know who’s behind the lens (and the computers, and the phones!) so you know who you’re working with.

To introduce you to our team on a deeper scale, we’re going to highlight a new WindowStill team member each week on the blog!

The first team member under the spotlight is Brad Ziemer, AKA, the face of WindowStill. Here’s what he had to say in his interview:

How long have you been working with photography and videography and what made you interested in it?

I started taking pictures around 10 years ago when I was working as a pilot.

I had a vision of flying to different parts of the world and taking pictures of the places I visit. Since I enjoyed taking pictures and using the camera so much, I thought it would be awesome to travel and do photography all over the world.

What gave you the idea to start WindowStill?

On one of my flights to Sault Ste Marie, I saw a lot of properties for sale and started to wonder to myself how a business there could survive.

I knew that I really liked taking photos of buildings and I was really interested in business, so I started to make a plan for how I could combine these two interests. I wanted to create something of my own and watch it grow, and that’s where the idea for a real estate photography company (WindowStill) came from.

What do you like to do in your free time, when you’re not running a successful business?

When I have free time away from work I always spend it with my family. We love to take our little one to new parks and playgrounds or go for walks downtown. Sometimes it’s just nice to relax, so we’ll put on a movie and watch it together, too!

What advice would you give to an aspiring photographer?

My biggest piece of advice is to find something you love and take pictures of it.

For example, if you like taking pictures of people, start practicing with friends and family. Do it every day to get some experience and one day you can start taking senior photos, photographing weddings, or taking engagement photos full-time!

Since I loved taking photos of buildings, I practiced taking pictures on my trips until I fully invested myself in real estate photography.

So, just find a subject to focus on and practice daily. Eventually, things will fall into place.

What do you feel is the most important quality of a photographer?

Attention to detail is a big one. If I’m taking pictures of a property or one of our photographers is, it’s important to notice the little things that make a picture great.

For example, paying attention to any little items in a shot (cell phone, mop, keys, etc.) can make or break a photo, so it’s important to set the stage correctly.

Creativity is also a really important quality because some of the best photos come from thinking outside of the box.
