Here’s what you missed from Katie Wright…

The conversation began starts with Katie sharing the diverse career path that led her to where she is today. Starting in her 20s, she worked in the service industry in various roles such as waitressing, bartending, homeware scheduling, and administrative work. While she enjoyed her work, she found it to be repetitive and was looking for a career that offered more growth opportunities. This led her to explore the real estate industry where she believed that hard work and commitment would pay off.

Initially, she joined a team in Novi where she spent her first 90 days cold calling and familiarizing herself with the business. Despite the challenges, Katie enjoyed being part of the team and gained valuable knowledge and experience. Eventually, she transitioned to becoming an independent agent and obtained her associate broker license. This led her to build her team and develop her skills further.

Kevin then brought up how real estate is a real roller coaster – pure excitement one moment and total disappointment the next. Katie responded that over time, she has learned to take the disappointments in stride. Although the early setbacks were tough to deal with, she has become adept at navigating the daily ups and downs of the job. For her, a moment of pure excitement might involve landing a million-dollar deal, while a moment of total disappointment could mean watching a deal fall apart at the last minute. Despite the unpredictable nature of the job, Katie remains committed to her work and believes that perseverance is key to success.

Next, she talks about the current market she serves, the Oakland county area. To someone who has never been there, Katie describes it as a suburban area with great schools and plenty of lakes nearby. The community offers easy access to parks, restaurants, and shopping, and is conveniently located near Detroit and northern Michigan. Above all, she highlights the friendly nature of the people who live and work in the area.

In March of 2022, Katie had the opportunity to share her story on Real Producers of Oakland County. When asked who would benefit from reading her story, she believes that it might be particularly suitable for those who are unsure of their career path. In her 20s, she lacked direction, but ultimately found a passion for real estate. She pointed out the many different avenues within the industry, from listings to property management, and encourages people to explore their options before committing to a particular path.

Following that, she talks about her focus on expanding her team and transitioning into more advisory and leadership roles. While she still enjoys working with clients, managing a team provides a different kind of fulfillment. Katie provides leads and guidance for her team and is always available to offer support. She is currently in the process of creating systems to sustain the growth of her team.

In terms of performance, the year 2022 was a strong one for Katie’s team, as she generated about $30 million in volume. Despite this success, she remains focused on continuous improvement, with a goal of reaching $40 million in volume in the coming year. She attributes their success to a focus on their CRM and consistent communication with their clients.

In a recent survey, it was found that 76% of buyers said they would buy a house they deemed ugly on the outside if the inside checked all their boxes. Katie then talked about how when it comes to which factor makes a property more valuable, interior renovations tend to be more costly. For her personally, outdoor work such as grooming the yard and painting the front door can be easier to manage. She believes it’s easier to live in the house and have work done on the outside instead of the other way around.

Katie then shared how she donates a portion of her commission for every transaction in each of her clients’ names to Children’s Miracle Network. She thinks it’s great that ReMAX has these organizations in place and believes that in order to keep, you need to give. When asked if she faces any challenges in her career, she noted how the inconsistency of the real estate market affects her business. Closing deals has become harder, but she plans to stay informed and adjust to the changes. Despite the low inventory now, she believes more houses are to come and it will be a very busy summer.

The conversation wraps up with Kevin asking Katie if she sees herself retiring and how she envisions it. She definitely sees herself retiring someday. Retirement to her means being in warmer cities, spending more time with family and traveling.
