EPISODE 9: MISSY LORD

Next on The Brad and Taylor Show, we have Missy Lord!

Missy is a realtor with RE/MAX. We talked about her experience before becoming a realtor and the advice she’d give to newbies.

The full podcast episode is available below, as well as on Apple Podcasts.

In the meantime, here’s a summary of the conversation…

The conversation starts off with Brad asking Missy about what she wanted to be as a child. Missy explains that she wanted to be a writer, as she loved reading as a kid and wanted to have an impact on others through her work.

She also mentions that she’d love to write a book someday, preferably a children’s book.

Brad then asks how Missy’s plans went from being a writer to a realtor, and Missy explains that she worked in the corporate world after earning her master’s degree. After working with great clients and enjoying sales in that environment, she decided to start working as a realtor part-time, eventually making real estate a full-time job.

She then begins talking about how much she values the freedom that comes with working in real estate. She explains that it was her goal to have the flexibility to take her children to school, which she is able to do as a real estate agent. She also mentions that she wishes she would have made the leap sooner.

Next, Taylor asks if Missy has any time-blocking strategies since she’s self-employed. Missy says that at first she didn’t but now she’s working with a coach to set firmer boundaries between work and life.

Brad asks about advice that Missy was given and she says that information about filling out forms was helpful, as contracts can be really confusing at first. She also talks about working with friends and family in the beginning as she gained experience.

In terms of marketing, she leaned on business cards, hand-written letters, open houses, and social media to get the word out of her service. Missy also mentions that she would recommend new agents reach out to mentors or friends in the field for advice and questions.
