Here’s what you missed from Adam Pend…

The conversation began with a this or that icebreaker on curb appeal, fixer uppers, and more. Adam then introduces himself beyond his real estate profession as a Christian, a devoted husband, and a loving father of four children. Outside of work, he finds joy in living on a farm and spending as much time as possible outdoors.

Adam’s real estate activities primarily focus on the region surrounding his home base in South Bend, Indiana. He serves clients within approximately an hour’s radius of this location. Notably, within this radius, there are several significant landmarks and attractions, such as the prestigious Notre Dame University, the vibrant city of Elkhart, and the picturesque shores of Lake Michigan. From an economic perspective, Adam operates within a robust seller’s market. This means that sellers have the advantage, as demand for properties is high while the supply remains limited.

Adam’s journey towards becoming a realtor began at the young age of 16 when he started distributing flyers to offer his services for various household tasks like lawn mowing. As life progressed, he got married at the age of 20 while still in college, and soon after, they welcomed their first child. Realizing the need for a job that could support his education, Adam pursued an internship at a printing and marketing company. This experience taught him valuable communication skills and the joy of connecting with new people outside the confines of an office. Although he knew he wanted to work in sales, he understood the challenges of the industry. However, with his father’s 35 years of experience as a real estate agent, Adam saw an opportunity and decided to enter the field. Now, having been an agent for nearly nine years, he has honed his skills and knowledge to his advantage in the real estate industry.

Kevin then asked us about the moment Adam decided he wanted to be a real estate agent or what he’s learned from his father that may have influenced that decision. Adam explains that his desicion to become a real estate agent was deeply influenced by his father. From a young age, he admired his father’s unwavering commitment to doing the right thing in every aspect of life. Inspired by his father’s integrity, it became evident to Adam that following in his footsteps would be a natural choice. This admiration, coupled with the desire to make a positive impact in people’s lives through real estate, solidified his decision to pursue a career as a real estate agent.

Throughout his real estate career, Adam has had numerous rewarding interactions and developed meaningful relationships with his clients. The nature of his work allows him to frequently meet and interact with clients, often resulting in the formation of lasting friendships. Adam genuinely enjoys getting to know new people and hearing their stories, which has further enriched his professional experience. Building trust and rapport with clients throughout their real estate journey has been a rewarding aspect of his job, providing him with a sense of fulfillment and joy.

Kevin then inquired about how Adam would compare his first-ever closing to his most recent one. Adam explained that when he initially started his real estate journey, he found himself frequently calling his father for advice, relying on his guidance to navigate the learning curve. Over time, however, Adam developed a system and gained experience, which made the process feel more natural and instinctive. The tasks and actions required in real estate transactions became second nature to him.

Next, Adam shared a story of the most untraditional way he obtained a client or a lead for a client. He reflected on his experiences and acknowledged that while he might have encountered untraditional methods of obtaining clients or leads, he felt that his intentional efforts had resulted in more significant progress than chance encounters. However, he did recall a specific incident where he spent an hour door-knocking while searching for a property for a client. This particular endeavor unexpectedly led to him securing three listings in the area. Additionally, Adam mentioned his grandfather’s belief in the correlation between hard work and luck, emphasizing the importance of putting in the effort to create opportunities.

Adam then spoke about a situation where he had an intense disagreement with an opposing client’s agent and how it was resolved. He shared a valuable lesson he learned from his father, which is to always remember whom he represents, whether it be the buyer or the seller. While maintaining a good rapport with the opposing agent is important, it is crucial to prioritize the interests of the client being represented. Adam recounted an instance where the buyer’s agent missed the deadline for inspection responses, resulting in issues with the septic system.

The opposing agent then requested the seller to rectify these issues, even though it was past the deadline. Adam reached out to his client to discuss the situation, and the seller chose not to accommodate the demands since they were missed due to the buyer’s agent’s oversight. Adam realized he had to advocate for his seller’s interests. He proceeded to complete the necessary forms, causing frustration for the buyer’s agent. Adam firmly stated that had they fulfilled their responsibilities on time, they would not be in that predicament. Despite the disagreement, the transaction eventually closed without burdening his client with unnecessary demands from the buyer.

Adam then walked us through the process of his most recent work day, from start to finish. Adam begins his workday by waking up at 5 am, dedicating time to focus on his personal well-being and spiritual growth, which involves reading the Bible and preparing mentally for the day ahead. Following this, he engages in analysis work, whether it’s for his own business or for clients. While enjoying his breakfast, he checks and responds to emails. Around 9 am, Adam heads to the gym for a workout, and upon returning, it’s usually his call time from 11 am to 1 pm, reaching out to clients, and seeking new business opportunities. He strives to schedule most of his closings in the afternoon, allowing him to establish a consistent routine in the mornings. Moreover, Adam ensures he sets aside half a day every Thursday during the summer to spend quality time with his family.

The conversation wraps up with Adam reflecting on key lessons he has learned about himself, the industry, and the importance of serving others. He attributes his success to two significant factors: his father’s influence and the wise words of his mentor. His father’s guidance and support played a crucial role in shaping his career. Additionally, his mentor emphasized the importance of attitude, planning, and hard work. Adam recognizes that as a realtor, he essentially runs his own business, and having the right attitude is crucial in building strong relationships with clients. He stresses the significance of having a well-thought-out plan and diligently working toward its execution. These three words, attitude, plan, and work, have consistently guided his career decisions and actions. Adam also highlights the value of having a long-term plan that helps him evaluate and utilize the principles of attitude, plan, and work in his day-to-day activities.

These lessons have a profound impact on Adam’s future goals and aspirations as a real estate entrepreneur. They reinforce the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, developing comprehensive plans, and consistently putting in the necessary work. Adam emphasizes the significance of having a long-term vision to guide his actions and enable him to provide exceptional service to his clients while achieving his personal and professional goals.
