Here’s what you missed from Ryan Richardson…

The conversation began with a word association icebreaker on title insurance, land contract, and more. Ryan then introduces himself beyond the scope of real estate. He proudly mentions that he is a husband, celebrating nine years of marriage in December, and a father of two. In addition to his real estate career, Ryan pursues wedding photography on the side and enjoys activities such as hanging out with family and friends, reading, and watching football, albeit a bit too much.

Ryan’s brokerage, known as the Brokerage Real Estate Enthusiast, is based in Fenton, with additional offices in Grand Blanc, Clarkston, and Davidson. As a result, their services extend to Genesee County, Clarkston, and the northern parts of Oakland County. Ryan personally serves a wide range of locations, including his hometown of Sanilac County, where he has a significant network of friends and family. His business extends to areas such as Lansing and Bay County, showcasing his willingness to travel and serve clients across various regions.

Ryan then recalls the decision-making process that led him to pursue a career in real estate. In 2021, after experimenting with various jobs, he and his wife discussed the idea of trying real estate due to their enjoyment of interacting with people. Seeking guidance, Ryan approached his agent, who later became his broker. She provided him with the necessary resources, including an online class, which they completed together. Ryan obtained his license in July 2021, after starting the process in April. For the following six months, he balanced a full-time job from 7 am to 3 pm with conducting showings in the evenings and on weekends. In January 2022, he made the leap to become a full-time real estate agent.

When discussing the preference for working solo instead of in teams, Ryan candidly shares that the financial aspect played a significant role in his decision. Starting out, he carefully evaluated the financial steps he needed to take, transitioning from part-time to full-time real estate work while saving what he earned along the way. The team dynamics, including caps on earnings, led him to choose the solo route, where he could work hard and stay financially afloat.

Next, Ryan recounts a situation where his diligence in representing his client was recognized by a listing agent. The clients had fallen in love with a house in Lapeer, but unfortunately, it accepted a different offer. Determined to explore all possibilities, Ryan reached out to the agent to inquire about contingencies, inspection schedules, and updates to gauge if there was still a chance for his clients. He believes that representing clients means finding a way to seize opportunities on their behalf, even if it means being perceived as persistent among fellow realtors. This experience taught him the importance of going the extra mile for his clients and advocating for their interests.

Following that, Ryan highlights his collaboration with trusted lenders to help clients position themselves for the mortgage pre-approval process. He takes pride in referring his clients to lenders who prioritize their well-being and are willing to go above and beyond to secure favorable deals. This initial step of connecting clients with reliable lenders lays the foundation for a successful mortgage journey.

Ryan then shares a unique situation involving a manufactured home in North Branch. The buyers, accompanied by Ryan, were pre-approved for an FHA mortgage, but due to the complexities associated with FHA and manufactured homes, the transaction encountered challenges. Despite following guidelines and investing six to eight weeks in obtaining necessary documents, the buyers eventually backed out. Ryan had to communicate this setback to the seller, who already had concerns based on past experiences with other agents. However, the seller maintained trust in Ryan’s abilities. Remarkably, just five days later, they secured a better offer and successfully sold the property. This experience taught Ryan the value of staying composed, keeping clients informed, and ensuring their needs are met.

When asked the reason behind his sending handwritten “Happy Home Anniversary” cards to his clients one year after closing on their homes, He also shares that he maintains notes on his phone about his clients’ preferences, ensuring that the gifts he selects are personalized. He believes in celebrating the milestone of one year of homeownership and cherishing the relationship with his clients. Along with the cards, Ryan includes small, lighthearted gifts like lottery tickets, aiming to create genuine connections rather than viewing transactions as purely business.

When it comes to elaborate closing gifts, Ryan mentions that the most elaborate gift he has seen given to clients who closed on their property was personalized and branded prints on champagne bottles, featuring the agent’s name, contact information, and company branding. In his own practice, Ryan prefers celebrating with clients at their new homes, toasting with champagne, and capturing photographs. For him, the essence lies in the shared experience and togetherness.

Reflecting on his journey, Ryan shares that he has learned essential lessons about himself, the real estate industry, and the importance of serving others. He recalls clients who faced financial challenges and spent a significant amount of time searching for a home. Through this experience, he realized the significance of not being solely driven by the paycheck. Ethical representation of buyers and sellers should always be the guiding principle. Ryan emphasizes the need to prioritize clients’ well-being over financial gains and ensure they make informed decisions that align with their long-term goals.

The conversation wraps up with Ryan addressing how he handles stress. Ryan mentions that he finds ease in discussing concerns with his wife and friends. Voicing out his worries and taking a step back helps him gain perspective. Although managing stress is an ongoing process, his love for what he does keeps him motivated.
