WindowStill Real Estate Photographer Spotlight: Jack Klein

This week under the WindowStill Spotlight, we have Jack Klein!

Jack is one of our awesome real estate photographers and videographers in Colorado. We sat down with him to chat about how he got started in photography and to learn about some of his personal interests.

Here’s what Jack had to say…

What is your role at WindowStill and what does a typical day of work look like for you?

I’m essentially a customer service representative for WindowStill providing my visual arts talents for commercial use.

A typical day consists of keeping a close eye on my schedule since it can change quickly. There’s a good amount of communication with realtors before, during, and after a shoot, as we want to make sure that we don’t miss anything. Sometimes, we help agents generate ideas for their shoots as well.

After I’m done with shoots for the day, I head home to upload and recharge all of my gear.

What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not working?

At home, I’m either in the garden or playing with my two retrievers, sometimes at the same time when they jump the fence. This time of year we like to go out on our boat or spend time on our remote property in the mountains to relax.

What advice would you give to an aspiring photographer/videographer and why?

Learn how to frame the best shot in the camera and rely as little as possible on editing.

Get familiar with your camera and its technology in unique situations like extreme or unusual lighting conditions and learn about bracketing as it’s a big thing in real estate photography. Lastly, learn the rule of thirds (it’s fundamental!) and create a routine, and stick to it.

What do you feel is the most important quality for a photographer/ videographer and why?

Having a natural feel for the whole scene(s) that you’re shooting, what’s in focus, what’s in the background, what are the best angles to include or not include certain things to make the image or video interesting.

Try to appreciate all kinds of people because you will meet a lot of them as you become more and more successful.
