Here’s what you missed from Katie Wheeler…

Katie began her real estate career after feeling burnt out from working in mortgages at Quicken Loans. Seeking a fresh start, she transitioned to real estate with Keller Williams before moving to a brokerage in Troy, Michigan. Her personal referrals made the Keller Williams system unsuitable, leading her to work with people from her mortgage background and eventually joining her husband, Cyrus, to establish Match Realty.

Licensed to sell in Los Angeles, Katie saw this expansion as a challenge and an opportunity to start anew. She spends 4-6 days in Los Angeles each month, engaging in open houses, door knocking, and networking to build her presence. Despite not yet selling a house in California, she is committed to establishing her business there.

Katie emphasizes the importance of her team’s support, which allows her to manage her business effectively despite frequent travel. Originally having around 70 agents, the team has since downsized to about 40 people, including Cyrus, to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Their recent acquisition of a new office has further improved their operations.

Although public speaking is not her preference, Katie participates in panels to learn from other experts and to embrace discomfort for growth. She highlights the importance of commitment and consistency for new real estate agents, advising them to learn from established professionals’ routines and strategies.

Reflecting on her career, Katie values the significance of building and maintaining personal connections with clients. She has learned to relinquish some control and rely on her team for support, emphasizing the importance of consistent client service without fearing business inconsistency.

Katie cherishes memorable client moments, enjoying the human aspect of real estate and helping clients through emotional and challenging situations. She strives to make real estate less transactional and more personal, aiming to be a part of her clients’ post-closing celebrations.

Excited about Detroit’s growth, Katie has helped clients make significant profits and witnessed the city’s transformation with new restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. She expresses enthusiasm for Detroit’s continuous improvement and energy.

Katie’s personal and real estate goals include working out five times a week, training for the Free Press Marathon, and selling at least six houses in Los Angeles. She is focused on improving her team’s performance in Detroit and continuously striving for better results each year.

Looking forward, Katie is committed to her marathon training and aims to achieve more each year, balancing her professional and personal aspirations for continuous improvement.
