In the meantime, here’s a summary of the conversation…

The conversation starts off with Brad asking Jessie what she wanted to be as a kid. Jessie says that she originally wanted to be a teacher in early childhood education because she was inspired by her grandfather.

After spending some time working in the office for international studies at Western Michigan University, she decided to pursue a career as an advisor in this field. She is now an advisor at Michigan State University.

Taylor asks Jessie to go a little more in-depth about The Road Jess Traveled and how it started. Jessie explains that she loves writing and that her friends have always complimented her handwriting.

As a hobby, she started using her writing skills to make hand-crafted wooden signs. From there, her business grew and she now offers a variety of custom items.

Brad asks about a lesson Jessie has learned along the way, and she mentions that in the beginning, she was spreading herself a little too thin when she was promising completed products. She says if she had to go back, she would give herself a little more leeway and quote a longer time frame for clients.

Next, Taylor asks if Jessie has any goals for her business in the future. Jessie says that she’d love to one day have a storefront and a podcast.

Brad asks if Jessie has any advice for creative minds who are looking to get started, and Jessie answers by saying she’d highly recommend social media for promoting products. She mentions that she leans heavily on Instagram, Etsy, and Facebook.

Lastly, Taylor asks Jessie which animal she thinks would be the rudest if animals could talk. Jessie laughs and says she feels cats would because she has a few and can tell by their demeanor that they’d be rude if they could talk.
