Here’s what you missed from Nick Kalte…
00:00:00:13 –> 00:00:03:15
Taylor: Welcome to The Brad and Taylor Show. Today we have Nick Kalte.
00:00:04:09 –> 00:00:15:03
Brad: You’re listening to The Brad and Taylor Show, a podcast that inspires entrepreneurs to pursue their passions. We’re sitting down with some of the best to learn how they got started and some lessons they learned along the way.
00:00:15:03 –> 00:00:15:15
Taylor: Hey Nick.
00:00:16:25 –> 00:00:17:22
Nick: Hey guys. How are you?
00:00:17:27 –> 00:00:18:24
Taylor: We’re good. How are you doing?
00:00:18:25 –> 00:00:22:13
Nick: I’m doing good. Not too bad. Just finishing up a busy year.
00:00:22:20 –> 00:00:30:00
Brad: Oh yeah, that’s awesome. Well, let’s get this show started. Tell us about how you are finishing off the year? Tell us about that.
00:00:31:17 –> 00:00:47:18
Nick: Yeah, obviously you know it’s been a busy 2021 market. Very, very hot right now. So everyone’s looking to buy and anyone looking to sell is just sitting on gold right now. So that’s why we’re finishing up a few listings and tons and tons of buyers.
00:00:48:04 –> 00:00:55:17
Brad: That’s awesome. Well, before all this, let’s back it up a little bit. When you were younger, did you want to be an agent when you grow up or what would you want it to be?
00:00:56:11 –> 00:01:09:17
Nick: No, I wanted to be a veterinarian. I grew up having a lot of pets and I always wanted to be the one to help dogs, cats. You know, I had a hamster, we had everything, so I always wanted to be.
00:01:10:18 –> 00:01:12:17
Brad: That’s awesome. So how’d you got into real estate then?
00:01:14:11 –> 00:01:43:07
Nick: So I was actually a huge Red Wings fan. So my now wife and I went to a Redwings game years and years ago and met my now business partner in the VIP room. And he was there with a son later on, probably a few weeks later, I ended up messaging him, telling him we were looking for a house and he sold us our house at the time. And I ended up just reaching out to him and saying, Hey, you know, what’s up with this real estate thing. And he said, come on board. And here we are.
00:01:43:26 –> 00:01:47:16
Brad: That’s awesome. So how many years has it been or how long I’ve been in real estate?
00:01:48:21 –> 00:01:50:00
Nick: I’m going on four years.
00:01:50:05 –> 00:01:51:08
Brad: Nice for you.
00:01:52:17 –> 00:02:07:00
Nick: Very busy four years. I definitely jumped in and jumped into a buyer’s market. And now obviously with everything going on, it was, I was very grateful to be starting off my young career, heading into a seller’s market and business has just been booming ever since.
00:02:07:09 –> 00:02:17:26
Taylor: That’s awesome. Yeah. Before we get into ’em I have a couple of other questions for you, but I kind of want to back it up a little bit and stay with your first transaction. How did that go for you? How did you get your first client and how did that go?
00:02:19:00 –> 00:02:50:14
Nick: So my very first client was actually my best man at my wedding. He and his brother were looking to move out and knew I had just gotten into real estate and obviously took a chance on me. And yeah, ever since then, the lender that helped me with that sale, we kind of started snowballing and I had all of his family members, he sent to me and him and I really started picking up business and that’s really what started my foundation. So there were a lot of friends and family and referrals.
00:02:50:27 –> 00:02:57:02
Taylor: Nice. I noted that the first transaction goes as smoothly as you’d hoped. Sometimes they’re a little nerve-wracking. Right.
00:02:57:25 –> 00:03:07:16
Nick: The first one is okay. Had some help. It was the next few that were pretty tough and they really got me into the game right away. So that first year, was a defining year.
00:03:08:11 –> 00:03:09:24
Taylor: Lots of learning that first year.
00:03:10:18 –> 00:03:11:26
Nick: Oh yeah, absolutely.
00:03:12:05 –> 00:03:15:26
Taylor: You get any advice from your business partner that has stuck with you throughout the years?
00:03:17:00 –> 00:03:27:15
Nick: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Still talk to them all the time. And we still go back and forth. We’re always learning, we’re always growing, we’re asking each other questions, picking each other’s brain and there’s always more and more to be learned.
00:03:28:00 –> 00:03:34:00
Brad: That’s awesome. Over the last four years, What is one of the worst properties you’ve been to or showings?
00:03:35:21 –> 00:03:58:23
Nick: So one of the worst ones we went to, we walked in and it was on a crawl space and the floor just caved in all wasn’t supported. So I called the agent and they knew about it and we just walked out. And to this day it was the worst one because it was a new client I’d just been referred to over about two hours prior. And then we walked into that first house and the floor gave out on us.
00:03:59:16 –> 00:04:01:25
Taylor: Did anybody fall through all the way or did it kind of just crash?
00:04:02:19 –> 00:04:08:24
Nick: Luckily, no. Luckily it was like a back bedroom and we walked in and kind of understood right away.
00:04:09:18 –> 00:04:12:04
Taylor: What was going on with that new client? Did you end up selling the home?
00:04:12:21 –> 00:04:23:01
Nick: Yeah. And then we just, we did. And then we closed on her home and bought her a new home two days ago.
Brad: Oh, that’s awesome. Good for you guys.
Nick: All the relationship stayed, Flooring didn’t affect that, anything.
00:04:24:26 –> 00:04:29:10
Brad: That’s awesome. So what are some of your goals for 2022?
00:04:30:13 –> 00:04:58:22
Nick: Yeah. So goals for 2022. I’m looking to have more listings. Obviously, everyone has a ton of buyers right now, but hopefully, help a lot of sellers and give them the right guidance as to what they need to do heading into such a hot market and maximize the amount of money they can make and help anybody obviously, build our team a little bit more over at Brookstone and build our own personal team and really just expand and teach new agents.
00:04:58:22 –> 00:05:00:08
Brad: That’s awesome. So tell us about your team right now.
00:05:01:13 –> 00:05:26:16
Nick: My team right now over at Brookstone, we transferred over a few years ago and Brookstone is very welcoming and inviting and we were able to bring our team. We were able to expand a few new agents and there’s, there’s a couple of us right now, but really looking to grow like one of Brookstone’s biggest teams and really, really be able to take on an agent, just looking for an incredible opportunity at a good company with good leadership.
00:05:26:25 –> 00:05:28:12
Brad: That’s awesome. Good for you guys.
00:05:28:19 –> 00:05:31:29
Taylor: Do you have a goal in mind of how many agents you want to add on in 2022?
00:05:32:13 –> 00:05:52:14
Nick: How many? Not necessarily. There are a few agents and teams we’re talking to, but maybe just to bring on five or 10 would be awesome and really, really take over and transition from just being an agent into being an associate broker and a leader for many agents.
00:05:52:14 –> 00:06:01:08
Taylor: Yeah. Yeah. That sounds great. That’s awesome. I look forward to seeing how that turns out for you guys in 2022. You’ll get there. Definitely.
00:06:01:22 –> 00:06:04:06
Nick: Absolutely. Yeah. I have no doubt. We’ll definitely get that.
00:06:04:20 –> 00:06:12:02
Taylor: If you could start over today with all the knowledge that you’ve learned in the last four years of being in real estate, what would you do differently? Is there anything that you would change?
00:06:13:00 –> 00:06:47:16
Nick: Yeah, almost everything actually. I just had a totally different mindset years and years ago, and I wish I could just show myself now the mindset that I currently have, and I could give myself the advice that I needed back then. Because I wasn’t a hard worker. Actually, I was pretty lazy. I wasn’t very future-driven and I think getting into real estate and really having such a booming first year and now into this year really gave me a responsibility that I wish I had back then only. So I could start earlier and just be further along the path that I am right now.
00:06:47:24 –> 00:06:50:24
Taylor: Yeah. Would you get that same advice to other new agents coming on?
00:06:51:21 –> 00:07:28:24
Nick: Absolutely. That’s the advice I do give too, and especially the younger agents too because you do come into a career that’s going to be hopefully something you can do for the rest of your life. And it is very demanding of you too. And I think a lot of people don’t realize that. I think there’s a lot of new agents that think you’re just kind of jumping into this, this stream. That’s just going to take you off and you’re going to become rich and that’s not true. It still takes a lot of hard work. And I wish I could’ve told myself that advice back then, even when I started. And then prior to real estate, it was just a disaster. I really was not future-driven. And I wish I could have started this earlier.
00:07:30:17 –> 00:07:34:12
Taylor: Do you have any good business books that you’ve read that you could recommend to anybody else starting?
00:07:34:21 –> 00:07:58:29
Nick: Yeah. Reverse Selling by Brandon Mulrenin. That’s his newest book and it’s actually incredible and it shows exactly how he built everything he has now and how he sells. And especially with me, you know, looking forward to 2022 with more listings. It’s a perfect book to read on how to gather more listings.
00:07:59:16 –> 00:08:01:19
Brad: That’s awesome. How can people get ahold of you?
00:08:02:28 –> 00:08:21:15
Nick: Yes, they can get ahold of me. My number is 2 4 8 4 1 7 1 1 7 9 or on Facebook at Nick Realtor or just Nick Kalte on Facebook, feel free to reach out and message me. Give me a call or a text. Anytime. I’m a realtor. So I’m up before you are and I’m to bed after you are.
00:08:23:00 –> 00:08:25:05

00:08:25:19 –> 00:08:27:07
