Watch the full podcast down below, or listen on Apple Podcasts. In the meantime, here’s the summary of the conversation…

The conversation starts with Brad asking Alyssa if she wanted to be a real estate agent as a kid. Alyssa says she didn’t want to be in real estate as she didn’t know about the field as a kid, however, when she got to high school a career compatibility quiz told her she’d be great in HR.

After a job shadow, she realized it wasn’t the path for her, as it required a lot of sitting and not enough interaction with others. She mentions that she was also interested in teaching, however, after student teaching she realized she didn’t want to be locked in a classroom all day.

She explains that she found out about real estate through friends and family and wanted to be a real estate agent as she was graduating high school. Alyssa says that she wanted to be an agent right out of high school but her parents encouraged her to go to college, where she ended up getting a degree in entrepreneurship and marketing.

Next, Brad asks Alyssa what stood out to her about her degree. She mentions that it taught her how to build a business from the ground up with a plan. She explains that she had an exit strategy if necessary and a plan for gaining clients.

Alyssa explains her experience with real estate before actually gaining her license, talking about her time with a foreclosure agent and the learning experience this provided for her.

Taylor asks what Alyssa’s career looks like today compared to where it was when she started. She talks about finding a work-life balance and learning which parts of her career she wanted to pursue and which she didn’t.

She also talks about pulling her daughter out of daycare so she could be in the world of real estate with Alyssa.

Brad asks about a piece of advice that resonated with Alyssa, and Alyssa recalls being told that she couldn’t “do it all,” meaning that she couldn’t be a mother and a real estate agent and succeed in both roles. She says that this comment motivated her to prove everyone wrong, which she has done and continues to do by growing her business and being an involved mother.

Brad asks about advice Alyssa would give to new agents. She answers that she would encourage them to try to learn how to look at things from a variety of perspectives. She also mentions that each client is different, so it’s important to put personal opinions aside in order to get along with and enjoy each client.

Brad asks Alyssa about goals she has for the next five years, and she mentions that she wants to continue scaling her business while her children are in school full-time.

Lastly, Taylor asks the signature question: Is a hotdog a sandwich?

Alyssa laughs and says no unless the hot dog is on sandwich bread.
