Here’s what you missed from Bob Kornstadt…
The conversation starts with Bob talking about his college education as well as his motivation behind choosing a career in automotive. He explained that he graduated high school unsure of what to do and took his father’s advice to pursue something he is highly interested in. This led him to the automotive industry, which he soon discovered was not for him. He decided to leave the industry because it took up too much of his time and energy for his family.
Bob then shared his journey to becoming a licensed agent in 2018. He explained that the transition was easier for him because he was leaving a very toxic environment that he didn’t want to return to. It required a lot of grit and grind, which he used in real estate where there was less pressure. He also talked about the West Michigan market, which is regarded as one of the best places to raise a family. Everything is walkable, they have excellent school systems and healthcare. Hence, even millennials are beginning to relocate.
Following that, he discussed how he uses social media, including Tiktok and Instagram, which are not his primary niche but where he likes to be active and gain brand recognition. Bob then revealed what distinguishes him from other agents. He explained how he takes priority relationship building over the business. He runs his company more like a family than a business because he is not a sales-y type of guy.
Kevin then asked him to name some of his weaknesses or failures from which he believes he has learned or grown. Bob admits openly that he is a guy who never gives up. This may not appear to be a weakness, but it causes him difficulties in prioritizing and setting boundaries. He was also asked how he plans for an increase in demand for homes following a slower selling season. He stated that he waits until spring to see the entire house. However, he also addressed that it’s no longer considered the off-season it once was. Many people are now selling and taking advantage of the fact that they will have less competition.
Next, Bob discussed some of his responsibilities as a 50% owner of his brokerage. He explained how they started the brokerage to give back and create jobs. They have created a culture that is more like a family than a business that focuses on motivating their agents.
The conversation concluded with Bob comparing the number of hours he puts in at work each week in the past to the number of hours he puts in at work each week currently, as well as discussing how he achieves a better balance between his work life and his personal life by being more present for his family.
