Here’s what you missed from Jaimie Schmidt…
The conversation begins with Jaimie describing her background before starting out in the real estate industry. Her family was full of artisans and carpenters, so she grew up surrounded by them. She also worked in customer service, where she learned to listen to people and assist them in coming up with creative solutions to achieve their goals. After ten years in the business, she shared the most valuable lessons she’s learned, such as patience and how she doesn’t have to be the type of agent who is driven to you. She believes that being herself will attract the right people who want to hear what she has to say.
Jaimie then discussed her love of old houses and why she advocates for them. She explains how the designs and structures of old houses differ greatly from those of today. When she first started, she noticed a gap that needed to be filled. Only several agents are knowledgeable about the construction and nuances of older homes. She aspires to encourage a new generation to care for these types of properties. She also noted that no home can be “too old,” as there is always a way to restore its character.
When asked if she had ever had to remodel parts of a potential client’s home, she explained how she minimized the work due to liability concerns. While she can work on almost every room in the house, her availability is limited by the client’s budget and liability. The two then talked about some statistics, such as how student debt affects people’s decisions or capacity for purchasing a home. While this is true, she has seen more people become more impacted by their car loans, which has surprised her.
Following that, Jaimie talked about why she believes people choose to buy a home without hiring a real estate agent. She explains that it could be due to a lack of education, and that even when information is available, it is not presented in relatable spaces. She emphasized the importance of putting yourself in front of the people who need to see it.
The conversation concludes with Jaimie discussing how she uses her creativity to her benefit as a realtor. She goes on to discuss how she prefers passive marketing to putting herself out there. Outside of real estate, she describes herself as someone who enjoys digging on the hill next to her house, as well as archaeology and crafts.
