Preparing for Your Holiday Staycation
The holidays are one of the most common times of the year for people to take time off of work.
Between the shopping, cooking, wrapping, and hosting, we could all use a little bit of a break before the new year! Unfortunately, with the pandemic putting a pause on many of our travels, this much-needed vacation is turning into a staycation.
While you may have pictured yourself on a beach sipping on something fruity or breaking out your island attire, a staycation can be enjoyable if you plan for it!
Here’s how to prepare for the ultimate holiday staycation…
Get Chores Done Ahead of Time
If you were going on vacation, you would probably take some time before you leave to get caught up on all your chores, right?
Well, why not do that anyway so you can enjoy a stress-free staycation?
It’s easy to feel guilty about lounging around the house, taking naps, or binging Netflix on your time off. Many of us are programmed to feel like we need to be productive when we have extra time at home.
If you were going on vacation away from your house, you wouldn’t be doing chores, so why should you feel guilty about taking some time to relax at home?
To ensure your “to-do” list is free for your staycation, take some time to catch up on chores. Not only will it feel nice to have everything off of your plate so you can truly relax, but a clean house will make your staycation even more enjoyable!
Make the Environment as Cozy as Possible
If you’re doing a staycation, don’t be shy about maximizing your space to be as relaxing and cozy as possible!
Turn on the lights, light some candles, use some of that holiday money to indulge in the decor you’ve been looking at all year, and grab your favorite blankets!
While you may not be soaking in a jacuzzi with a margarita in hand, there’s no reason you can’t create the illusion that you’re somewhere else while you’re stuck at home.
Jot Down Some Ideas
For some of us, not having anything to do is exactly what we look forward to when we have time off of work.
For others, having nothing to do can make us feel anxious. If you want to have some sort of a plan for your staycation, take some time beforehand to jot down some activities you’ve been wanting to do but haven’t had the time.
For example, if you love cooking but don’t have time after work to make elaborate meals, plan to try a few new recipes with your time off! Or, if you love painting, set up a quiet place in the house to let your creative self thrive.
Planning for your staycation can be as simple as writing down a list of movies you’ve been dying to see and having a movie marathon. There are plenty of ways to keep yourself occupied at home, it just takes a little bit of creativity!
