Real Estate Photographer Spotlight: Brooke Stevenson
This week under the WindowStill Spotlight, we have Brooke Stevenson!
Brooke is one of our awesome photographers from Eaton Rapids, Michigan covering the Greater Lansing area, Jackson, Battle Creek, and all the small towns in between. She told us about her daily routine and her advice for newer photographers.
Here’s what she had to say…
What is your role at WindowStill and what does a day of work typically look like for you?
At Windowstill, my role revolves around photography, and I also help train our new photographers. A typical workday kicks off with checking emails and texts, making sure I’m on top of any questions or discussions. I start by reviewing the latest batch of photos submitted, getting a firsthand look at the creativity of our team.
The morning leads into scheduled photo shoots, each one presenting a new opportunity to capture the essence of our subjects. After the day’s shoots, I take some time to go back and look at my own work from the previous day, always looking for ways to improve.
In the spirit of collaboration, I curate and share social media posts, staying connected with real estate agents and fellow photographers. I also reach out to other photographers to see how they’re doing, fostering a sense of community and exchanging insights on the latest trends and techniques. This routine not only contributes to the visual storytelling at Windowstill but also plays a role in shaping the skills of our new photographers.
What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not working?
In my free time, I stay pretty busy with my two active girls who are into softball. I’ve taken on the role of the softball team photographer, even though I admit I’m still getting the hang of it.
When I’m not on the softball field, I enjoy training my German Shepherd puppy – it’s a fun challenge turning a bundle of energy into a well-behaved companion. I also like doing small projects around the house, just simple DIY stuff.
And when game day rolls around, you’ll find me and my husband cheering for the Detroit Lions. It’s a favorite pastime that we both enjoy. So, my downtime is a mix of family, dog training, DIY fun, and some good ol’ sports cheering with the hubby.
What advice would you give to someone that’s new to your field and why?
My advice for someone new to my field would be to embrace and enjoy the journey. There will be ups and downs, but use the down times to build connections with agents in your area.
Leverage the training teams available to you—they’re there to help you build your dreams. Don’t shy away from stepping out of your comfort zone because, sooner than you think, dealing with uncertainty will become a habit.
The process of learning and growing is just as valuable as the destination, so savor every step of your professional adventure.
What do you feel is the most important quality for someone in your field and why?
The most important thing in my line of work is being okay with the journey. We all start from the beginning, and it’s crucial to trust that things will work out. It means being patient with yourself, understanding that progress takes time, and appreciating that every little step counts.
Having this quality helps you handle challenges, learn from both good and not-so-good experiences, and keep you focused on getting better. Trusting the process is all about staying positive, adapting to changes, and always looking for ways to improve. It’s a mindset that helps you stick with the learning process, keep growing, and eventually succeed.
