Evan is one of our awesome photographers covering the tri-city area in East Tennessee. From Johnson City and Kingsport to Bristol. We learned about his hobbies and the advice he’d give to new photographers.

What is your role at WindowStill and what does a day of work typically look like for you?
I work as a real estate photographer. My job includes communicating with realtors, organizing and hosting meetings, and shooting professional photos.
A typical day at work can vary because, as I am only 16 and still in high school, school takes up most of my time. Because of this, I have to focus hard in order to be as productive as possible after school. I usually finish my homework as soon as I get home and then contact more realtors.
Before I leave for a photo shoot, I double-check that all of my equipment is ready, and then triple-check that I have everything. Then get ready for the shoot and do an amazing job. I then go to a nearby coffee shop to upload the photos for our excellent editors!
What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not working?
For me, free time is rather rare. Even when I am not working, I am also quite productive.
Mountain biking is one of my favorite activities. The mountains of Tennessee are breathtaking, and I can’t get enough of riding through them! All of the different colors are especially lovely in the fall.
I am also building an LLC, which, while still in the planning stages, consumes a significant amount of my time. But I like to keep myself occupied.
Last but definitely not least… birdwatching! (I know, a teenager who likes watching birds and taking photos of them sounds bazaar). However, this has to be one of the most interesting and fun times I’ve ever had. Every month, I post on my neighborhood Facebook page about new birds that have shown up, as well as rabbits and sometimes even deer. It offers joy to many people around me, which makes me very happy!

What advice would you give to someone that’s new to your field and why?
One of the issues I had was deciding what kind of equipment to purchase. If someone new came into the field where I work, the first thing I would tell them is that quality equipment pays for itself. Good tools lead to better results. It makes the job so much easier to have the proper equipment!
What do you feel is the most important quality for someone in your field and why?
Excellent communication skills are priceless in this line of business. Learning how to talk to various individuals without being nervous, as well as how to hold yourself with respect and authority. Personally, I haven’t had much difficulty conversing with others. I enjoy connecting with different people and learning how I may better serve them.
