Real Estate Photographer Spotlight: Kyle Sawyer
This week under the WindowStill Spotlight, we have Kyle Sawyer!
Kyle is one of our awesome photographers/videographers from the Greater Lansing Area in Michigan! He told us about his hobbies and what a typical day looks like for him. Here’s what this Lansing photographer had to say…
What is your role at WindowStill and what does a day of work typically look like for you?
A typical day for me involves checking the calendar to see what appointments I have. Once I’ve refreshed myself on the appointments I have, I double-check the notes so I know what each client would like from their photos/videos.
Next, I spend the day going to shoots and uploading the photos/videos to be edited by the office before they’re returned to the client.
What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not working?
In my free time, I love to travel.
I also enjoy taking videos and editing them.
What advice would you give to someone who’s new to your field and why?
My simple advice would be to pursue whatever it is you are passionate about. Do whatever you can in your free time to get one step closer to achieving your goals. Practice as much as you can, because you can always get better. Also, don’t be afraid to contact people and ask if you can do photos/videos for them.
I started with no equipment, no experience, and no knowledge of photography/videography two years ago. I spent thousands of dollars on equipment and countless hours teaching myself through YouTube videos and applying what I learned over time. Because of this, I am now a full-time photographer/videographer.
What do you feel is the most important quality for someone in your field and why?
It is very important to be creative and social. Contact as many people as you can to offer your services to, even if you offer videos for free. You can use those videos in the future to add to your portfolio to get paid gigs. Always try new things, such as new filming techniques or new editing techniques. Always continue to add to your arsenal of knowledge and ability!
