Real Estate Photographer Spotlight: Lauren Jensen
This week under the WindowStill Spotlight, we have Lauren Jensen!
Lauren is one of our awesome in Colorado and covers Peak to Peak region as well as Boulder and its surrounding suburban areas. She talked about what she loved doing in her free time and an advice she’d give to new photographers.
Here’s what she had to say…
What is your role at WindowStill and what does a day of work typically look like for you?
I’m a photographer, and while I’m not new to photography, I’m new to Windowstill, so my usual day of work right now consists primarily of networking and building relationships with new people, particularly realtors. I’ve also been learning a lot about the Real Estate industry; it’s been a fantastic adventure so far!
What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not working?
When I’m not working, I’m usually outside hiking with my dog, Evee, or exploring new places to camp! I am addicted to nature and enjoy being active and immersed in it! My passion for the outdoors is divided between the Rocky Mountains and the mystical wonders of the deserts of Utah and Arizona. I frequently drive to the desert for camping trips to clear my head and reconnect with myself. Outside of my “job” photography, I also do a lot of scenery and wildlife photography in Colorado and the southwest.
What advice would you give to someone that’s new to your field and why?
Stay consistent and don’t give up! The more you invest in a career like this, the bigger the payoff. Making connections and long-term clients takes time, perhaps more time than perfecting the skill of photography. Patience and the willingness to persevere during difficult circumstances are essential! I also believe that it is important to never stop learning.
Any creative or technological profession is always developing, and there is always more to learn to improve your game and become a better artist! Learning a new approach or method for something usually stimulates and encourages me when I am stuck in a rut with my job. If you’ve been in your job for 5 years or 50, you’re doing something wrong if you’re not actively learning!
What do you feel is the most important quality for someone in your field and why?
You would think that the ability to create and capture great photos is the most important quality in a photographer right off the bat, but I believe it is just half of the picture. Most people can learn to take beautiful photographs with practice.
Someone’s capacity to connect with others and develop relationships is critical in this field; without it, there will be no job. And without it, you won’t have any repeat business. I believe that being personable and able to build those relationships is the most important quality a photographer can have; it is what gets you work, and it also reflects in your work; your work will actually look better if you’ve made a good connection with that client.
