Melinda is one of our awesome photographers in Florida, covering Central Florida, Brevard County, and an even hour North and South of Brevard. She shared what her daily routine looks like and a piece of advice she’d give to new photographers.

What is your role at WindowStill and what does a day of work typically look like for you?

I am a real estate photographer. A typical day for me as a WindowStill photographer entails meeting with real estate agents and other professionals! I love meeting new people and getting to work with so many fantastic people in my community, whether it’s through online chats or meeting up for coffee or lunch! Of course, I have a lot of shoots on my calendar! Capturing beautiful homes for people, each with their own story about why I’m capturing their space!

What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not working?

I am a very adventurous person! I enjoy traveling, seeing new places, and being outside! When I’m in Florida, I’m usually at the beach or in the pool with friends! I am extremely passionate about photography and carry my camera practically everywhere I go! Bowling, listening to music, going out to eat, and watching movies are all part of my weekly home life!

What advice would you give to someone that’s new to your field and why?

Be yourself! Be consistent!

I must say that when I was offered this position, I was intimidated by the fact that I would need to be doing my own marketing and sales! I have a little background in sales but nothing I thought was notable for what was partially considered a sales position!

After I had gone through the training and had all the tools I needed to start making connections, I realized it wasn’t really a product I was promoting, it was myself! My skills! My qualifications! The reason I had gotten the position!

You won’t convince every agent or individual to use you as a photographer right off the bat! BE YOURSELF, make connections, and leave a positive impression! They will remember and will want to work with you! I have not only gained clients but also friends! It’s been such a rewarding experience!

What do you feel is the most important quality for someone in your field and why?

Patience and flexibility! As real estate photographers, something can change on a dime! It’s important to be able to be okay with sudden changes and be able to adapt to what’s necessary! A go-with-the-flow attitude!

Some periods may be slower than others! Some agents may tell you they’re going to book and you don’t hear from them again. Patience is a great quality to have during those times! Don’t let it discourage you and stay consistent with connections! Do you, have fun!
