Real Estate Photographer Spotlight: Patrick Gilmour
This week under the WindowStill Spotlight, we have Patrick Gilmour!
Patrick is one of our awesome photographers in Beverly Hills, Michigan, covering the Metro Detroit and its surrounding areas. He shared what his daily routine usually looks like and a piece of advice he’d give to someone new to the field.
Here’s what he had to say…
What is your role at WindowStill and what does a day of work typically look like for you?
I am a photographer at WindowStill. A typical day involves several tasks that differ depending on the realtor’s needs. I start by ensuring my memory card is ready and always bring backups. Then, I charge my batteries and double-check the notes for the day. This routine helps me stay prepared for the tasks that may come my way.
What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not working?
In my free time outside of WindowStill, I also do wedding videography. When I’m not doing anything video-related, I love watching movies, playing video games, and catching Detroit sporting events. I’m especially proud to be a Detroit Lions season ticket holder, enjoying the games with my brother and his friends.
What advice would you give to someone that’s new to your field and why?
For someone new to my field, I’d advise trusting the process and being patient, especially when getting the first 15 photos, which can be a challenge depending on the time of year. Once you nail those, you’re on the right track. I’m a stickler for angles, so developing a unique shooting style that highlights the mass space in a room can set you apart. Also, be open to taking last-minute shoots; the more flexible you are, the more opportunities you’ll likely receive.
What do you feel is the most important quality for someone in your field and why?
I believe that being open-minded is really important in my line of work. It means being ready to listen to others’ ideas and feedback, which can help us learn and improve. Being open to new perspectives and willing to adapt is key to staying creative and successful in photography.
