Here’s what you missed from Alex Young…
The conversation starts with Alex sharing how he always knew he was going to consult people since he was young. He was always leading, coaching, and assisting others; he just had the knack for it. As he gained more experience, it all led to him becoming a realtor today.
Having the opportunity to live in the Netherlands for six months in college, Alex talks about some of the experiences that helped his perspective. He describes how it enabled him to step outside of his comfort zone while also allowing him to be at ease with himself and by himself. It also pushed him to make new connections in an unfamiliar place.
Following that, Kevin asked Alex why he chose the name “The Bow Tie Group” for the independently owned and operated team with Keller Williams. Alex talks about how he didn’t want his name to be associated with anything and how he wanted something that would live on after him. He also mentioned how certain aspects of a bowtie are similar to those of real estate. When it comes to managing his business, he makes sure that it is carefully planned in his calendar.
Being voted Best of the Bay’s Best Real Estate Agent in both 2020 and 2021, he shared how much he appreciates this as it’s a reader’s choice award. Even just being nominated, he was incredibly happy to be recognized by the community. He also values how his business is not just by him, himself, but also by the support he receives from others. Alex was also voted “Promising Real Estate Professionals Under 40” which, to him, meant that he is only getting started.
Next, he discussed his clientele, of which 95% are referrals. To him, the relationship he has with his clients begins the moment they say hello. He also mentioned how fortunate he is to have learned the best way to communicate with others from his grandfather. The other 5% of clients, those who do not come from referrals, come from social media. Alex then discussed how he uses cutting-edge technology in video and social media. He aspires to be more relevant and focuses on creation rather than consumption.
When asked if he believes AI and technology will replace agents, he believes that the realtors who advance with technology will be the ones who survive. Real estate will always be a people-to-people business, so there will be a need to facilitate that. He believes that those who will do it will do so at a high level and will be supported rather than replaced by technology.
The conversation wraps up with Alex discussing his thoughts on the idea of a real estate industry purge, to which he believes, will naturally happen for agents not putting in the work. He also shared how he keeps himself away from being average by surrounding himself with high-value people.
