Tips for Moving During the Pandemic

From working in the office to sitting down at a restaurant, for the time being, a lot of normal activities are being put on hold.

While shutdowns, curfews, and remote working conditions may be changing the way we perform day-to-day tasks, that doesn’t mean we can’t still do them!

If you were planning on buying or selling a house before the pandemic, there’s no reason to change your plans. In fact, with a few adjustments and tricks, moving during the pandemic can be easier than you think.

Keep reading to learn some of our tips for moving during the pandemic!

Start As Soon As Possible

If you have a pretty large window of time before you have to be moved in or out, use that time wisely.

With restrictions on how many people can gather at a time, you’ll want to leave yourself plenty of time to move everything in case that restriction isn’t lifted anytime soon. Start boxing things up as soon as you can and move boxes out little by little.

Rent a Moving Truck

If you need to be out of your current residence quickly, consider renting a moving truck.

If you don’t have the luxury of space now that gatherings are limited, a moving truck will allow you to get more boxes and furniture with fewer trips. If you were planning on a friend or family member bringing a larger vehicle to moving day, there’s no reason why you need to make 20 trips in your smaller car!

Make Sure You Have a Backup Plan

Many of us rely on friends and family to help us move, especially if we have heavy furniture to move.

If you planned on having a few friends or family members help you move, figure out an alternative plan in case restrictions are keeping you from having everyone you planned for.

For the time being, moving companies are still operating with stricter safety standards.

If the people you planned on asking for help are uncomfortable being around others, budget for a moving company. If you feel uneasy about having strangers in your home during the pandemic, research a variety of moving companies in your area to learn about their safety measures.

You’ll want to make sure your movers are comfortable wearing masks, they’re up to date on temperature checks, and that they’re cleaning their hands regularly.

Ideally, at least one of the people you planned on having help will be comfortable helping still. Even if one person helps for a day, that’s better than nothing since you’ll have a little extra help with heavier items.

Practice Social Distancing

If friends or family are helping you move, it’s important to do everything in your power to keep everyone safe.

Try your best to maintain 6 feet of distance at all times. Keep hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes available to everyone so you can keep germs off of the furniture and your hands. If they’re willing, ask the people helping you move to wear masks while inside.

Even if you have to get close to each other to move furniture, the masks will cut down on exposure.

Keep An Eye On Your Health

As much as you want to get out of or into a house, it’s important to keep an eye on your health.

If you’re asking for help while moving, keep an eye on the way you’re feeling as well as your temperature. If you start to feel any of the symptoms of COVID-19, get tested right away and let everyone involved know that you’re not feeling well.

Don’t try to move anything or expose yourself to anyone until you’ve tested negatively for the virus and are feeling better!

How Will You Make Your Move Easier?

While you’ll need to tweak your original plans a little bit, moving during a pandemic is still totally doable!
