WindowStill Spotlight: Emily Rice

Under the WindowStill Spotlight this week, we have Emily Rice!

She edits videos and photos at the main office in Eaton Rapids when she’s not traveling around Michigan to film. Check out what she had to say…

What is your role at WindowStill? What does a typical day at work look like for you?

I start my day by editing photos and videos and getting deliverables out to clients. I’ll also brainstorm potential ideas for videos when I’m in the office.

About 2 days each week I spend the day traveling all over the state to film marketing videos, events, or client videos.

How did you find WindowStill?

I was finishing up my last semester at Michigan State and looking at potential jobs after graduation. As I was searching on Indeed, I stumbled upon a job posting for WindowStill for a photo editor.

I applied and came in for an interview so Brad could learn more about my experience in photo editing and videography, and before I knew it, I was hired as a photo and video editor.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do in your free time?

When I’m not at work I’m usually at home hanging out with my cat or traveling. This summer, I spent a lot of my free time on Lake Superior camping, taking photos, and finding some cool rocks!

What advice would you give to an aspiring photographer/videographer?

I would say that the best way to learn is by doing. You don’t need a storyboard or any expensive gear to get started, all you need is a camera. To get started, try photographing or filming the things around you. A great challenge is trying to make boring, everyday things around you more exciting!

You’ll be shocked by how much you learn!

What do you feel is the most important quality in a photographer/videographer?

It’s important to have the drive to keep learning. No matter how good you get, your work can always be better and there’s always more to learn.

The best videographers and photographers never stop learning about their work!
