WindowStill Spotlight: Joshua Ellett

This week under the WindowStill Spotlight, we have Joshua Ellett!

He’s one of our awesome photographers/videographers, working in a variety of cities in Wisconsin. Take a look at what he had to say…

  1. How long have you been working with photography and videography and what made you interested in it?

I’ve been working with drones for almost two years now.

One of my friends actually bought me a drone for Christmas, so I started using it and got hooked right away. I loved shooting music videos, car videos, and basically, any other footage that could be taken from the air!

2. What brought you to WindowStill?

When COVID hit I was left without work.

Needing to find a way to make an income, I started desperately calling around to find work. I connected with Brad and we talked on the phone for almost two hours. He offered to teach me more about photography so I could work as a freelance photographer for WindowStill.

I’m so glad I was able to find WindowStill and grow in a field that I enjoy so much!

3. What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not working with WindowStill?

I have a four-year-old son who loves to fly drones with me, so we do that together. I don’t like to work when I’m with him so I can give him my undivided attention, so we use the drones purely for fun.

He loves to go to the zoo and all kinds of different places, so I spend a lot of time taking him on new adventures!

4. What advice would you give to a new photographer?

Never stop learning. You may feel like you know everything about the field, but there’s always more to learn. If you’re always striving to be better than you were the day before, you’ll do great.

5. What do you feel is the most important quality of a photographer?

The most important thing is to be passionate about what you do. If you are, it will show in your work. If you’re not passionate about it, that will also show in your work.
